Meat Loaf: "That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument!"

Here's the problem with this story, and why newspapers are dying. Was it a Strat, a cheapo guitar, or a heavy metal Ibanez? Guitar fans want to know. I'd bet it was a Jackson or Ibanez - metal, dude. Would be dreadful if it was a whoozzi acoustic guitar.

From the Denver Post:A 20-year-old Colorado Springs man arrested in the death of his mother beat her with a guitar, according to court documents.

X who alledgedly bludgeoned his 60-year-old mother, with his guitar as she sat in a chair in her room, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by the Gazette newspaper.

A guitar was next to the body in the chair.

Investigators found blood on the guitar and concluded that Mom suffered "multiple blows" to the head and face with the instrument, according to the affidavit obtained by the Gazette. (Were the strings .10s or the really nasty .014?)

There were no signs of a struggle in the room, and no signs of a break-in at the home, the affidavit said.

He told police "he needed to go to the hospital because he was hearing voices," the affidavit said. (Of course he was hearing voices, it was Meat Loaf - "That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument!")

Bat Out of Hell

And I ran up the stairs to my parents’ bedroom
Mommy and Daddy was sleeping in the moonlight
Slowly I opened the door, creeping in the shadows
Right up to the foot of their bed
I raised the guitar high above my head
And just as I was about to bring the guitar
Crashing down upon the center of the bed,
My father woke up, screaming
“Stop! Wait a minute! Stop it boy!
What do ya think you’re doin’?
That’s no way to treat an expensive musical instrument!”
“God Dammit Daddy! You know I love you, But you got a hell of a lot to learn about Rock ‘n Roll”

— Meat Loaf, “Wasted Youth”

  1. That's Jim Steinman saying those words, not Meat Loaf, although it is on a Meat Loaf album.
