Disney screws Zac Efron

Zac Efron was screwed by Disney this weekend. I went by a movie theater and there was only one showing of 17 Again, about 11 a.m., but Up was on about a gazillion screens with 17 different show times a day. For the first time in seven weeks, his movie fell out of the top 10.

Imagine if 17 Again had shown on a gazillion screens this weekend with 17 different shows for each screen, it, too, would be #1 again. At least it did better than Jonas Brothers 3D (due on DVD shortly) and Hannah Montana the movie.

I’m not feeling all that broken hearted for Zac, though. Lucky guy gets to date Vanessa Hudgens.

Zac Efron still in Top 10

Six weeks since its release, Zac Efron is still in Box office heaven at #8, making another $1-million over the weekend.

Weekend box office figures are out. Zac Efron’s been at it for five weeks. He may have tumbled all the way to number six, but taking in three and a half million for the weekend, or nearly $60-million total for five weeks, isn’t bad.

There’s a glut of Tween movies due soon, including a Harry Potter I predict will be the most successful of the year – we’ll see. Then, “I Love You Beth Cooper,” which will make Hayden Panettierre an even bigger star (Demi Moore ranking) and Bandslam with Vanessa Hudgens, Alyson Michalka, Lisa Kudrow (Friends) and I just heard David Bowie. Really?

Previously reported here how Tweens are setting history creating the highest box office receipts ever. Increased prices help, a hot summer and one of the largest homogeneous demographics in history. They will be eclipsed in 10 years – a decade from now - when the largest birth year in history, 2007, reaches Tween status. Wonder who their stars will be? Hopefully they’ll be following Zac and Vanessa as people watch Brad and Angelina today. Think – Hannah Montana will be the 21st Century’s Second Decade generation’s Britney Spears or Madonna!

Let me coin a new phrase – I coined the Zack and Cody generation for today’s Tweens. Now I will dub today’s toddlers – soon to be a greater economic force than Zack and Cody generation – the Second Decade!

Speaking of Hannah Montana the movie, it fell out of the Top 10, but brought in another $1.5-million for a total of $76-million. Yes, there will be a sequel – Hannah Montana: 18, Legal and Dangerous. Her and the director say no, but remember the phrase, “Money talks; bull…. walks.”

Zac Efron 17 Again keeps going

We should call Zac Efron the Energizer bunny (for all we know, Vanessa Hudgens does!). He just keeps going and going.

More than four weeks after opening, 17 Again is still in the box office Top 5. That surpasses both Miley Cyrus’ and Jonas Brothers’ box office records. He has taken on a slasher flick (Wolverine) and an out-of-this-world movie (Star Trek) and keeps landing on his feet.

As I said before, the 21st Century Errol Flynn or Clark Gable. This guy’s as “bankable” as Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman or Keanu Reeves.

Zac Efron 17 Again hanging around theaters

After three weeks at the box office, Zac Efron’s 17 Again is hanging tight at number 4. So far it has grossed about $65,000 in three weekends. Hannah Montana the Movie has dropped to No. 9 after four weeks; grossing just slightly more than Efron on weekend sales.

You can tell by Efron’s shirt in the movie he can’t wait until July 10 when Hayden Panettiere’s “I Love You Beth Cooper” opens. Just like every red blooded American male!

Efron #1

This does not bode well for Hannah Montana Movie 2 – 18, Legal and Dangerous. My prediction that Hannah Montana Movie would again be #1 actually saw it drop to #4 at the weekend movie box office. OMG!

Number One – drum roll please – Zac Efron. Ah, what the heck. No one knows the name. It has Zac Efron, today’s Errol Flynn. Saturday Night Live – don’t think he did the Disney rounds on this one. Is he maturing? Girls 8 to 45 don’t care as long as he takes his shirt off.

An advertiser would be smart to have Efron as their spokes model.

Efron did half of what Hannah Montana Movie did, $24-mill, its opening weekend. Cyrus’ venture dropped to 13 mill. How’s she going to reach $500,000 per day if she doesn’t keep this movie afloat? If I were her publicity people, this week it would be Good Morning America, Radio Disney, calling every radio show – “I just wanted to talk, y’all. Wasn’t that Britney Circus fabulous? Did you catch my new movie yet? Let’s give away some tickets!”
