A personal theory is that one TV show begets another. The Lucy Show=Laverne & Shirley. Barney Miller became Night Court. Taxi became Cheers and The Monkees became Jonas.
Recently I was struck by the roles on Hannah Montana. Emily Osment plays the far out Emily and her alter ego, Lola. Shanica Knowles plays the rich and spoiled Amber. It hit me. Fifty years ago there was a show called The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Dobie had a kooky friend, Maynard G. Krebs. Future Bonnie and Clyde star Warren Beatty played the rich and spoiled Milton Armitage. Tuesday Welds also appeared on Dobie Gillis as his love interest, the role played by Nick Jonas, oops, I mean Cody Linley as Jake Ryan.
Bob Denver became Gilligan, Welds and Beatty found fame. Do the stars on Hannah Montana realize what their futures hold for them? Mitchel Musso is taking advantage of his situation by launching a music career.
Want you to bookmark this page, go to IMDB for Dobie Gillis, then tell me what happened to the stars of Hannah Montana in 2019. Bet they’re all stars, none are doing drugs as plagued sitcom stars from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Funny how Jonas Brothers TV show is replicating The Monkees of the ‘60s. Have they ushered in a similar era in entertainment?
If TV is listening, I have a fantastic idea for a situation comedy. A right wing bigot – Let’s call him Dick Cheney – has his daughter’s homosexual lover move in with the family. The lover keeps calling Cheney “meat head.” We call it All in The Second Family. Since Jonas ushered in The Monkees era, this will be the next step for a winning TV show.
