Bandslam DVD set for release
Day before St. Patrick's Day
Wikipedia wrong, imagine that

In November, Wikipedia reported Bandslam DVD would be released Dec. 7 (Pearl Harbor Day). Evidently that didn't happen. Can you imagine Wikipedia being wrong? Gasp. Personally, I like Bandslam and plan to pick up a DVD. Did better than I Love You Beth Cooper, which has yet to recoup its investment (finally saw it, I want my two hours back). Bandlam has netted something like $5-million above its cost to make. That's before DVD release - unless you're in the United Kingdom, where it has been available - probably since Dec. 7.

Bandslam DVD sets release date

Known as one of the losers of 2009, the Bandslam movie will be released on DVD Dec. 7 according to Wikipedia.

I enjoyed the movie. It has grossed $10-million worldwide in theater distribution. That's better than what I made this year, so I wouldn't call it a failure.

The fault may be how it was marketed. It is quite an intellectual film in the Terms of Endearment genre. Yet it was marketed as a teen romance film and coming of age.

Dang girl, Selena Gomez Disappears
Beats Vanessa Hudgens for song of year

In August my daughter discovered Selena Gomez when I blogged Dang, girl Selena Gomez Kiss & Tell. Was one of Tween Music's most read blogs. Will admit I have yet to put Kiss & Tell through the car stereo proving ground, but this weekend I was "spinning" Wizards of Waverly Place CD.

I'm knocked out by
Disappear. I thought Vanessa Hudgens Everything I Own from Bandslam would get my "song of the year" for sure; until I heard Disappear. Both songs have fantastic chord progressions. According to Billboard, neither Hudgens or Gomez songs were released as singles. Billboard credits Hudgens with three songs to chart, Come Back to Me, Say OK and Sneakernight. None for Gomez.

I Love you Beth Cooper
DVD release Nov. 3, 2009

I Love You Beth Cooper, which was one of the lowest box office opening weekends of 2009, $5-million, is due on DVD Nov. 3. Bandslam opened at half that, $2.5-million.

If Bandslam marketers were smart, they'd release Bandslam around the same time to capture holiday shopping, but none of Bandslam's marketing has made sense since its release - like not releasing any singles from the soundtrack.

Bandslam Soundtrack sinks

Released more than 2 weeks ago, Bandslam soundtrack has yet to chart. This must be one of the most unsupported soundtracks in history. The movie itself had one of the worst opening weeks and has not done well. Don’t know if it is still in any theaters – and its only been out two weeks.

The only single released was Honor Society’s Where Are They Now. No release of Vanessa Hudgens’ Everything I Own. It reminds me of a friend who gets real interested in something, like engraving, and in two weeks gives it up after investing a ton of money in the new hobby. Seems like no one wanted to invest in making Bandslam soundtrack succeed.

Bandslam - both movie and CD stiff

Bandslam movie has failed to make $3-million in its first week. It opened at #13. The soundtrack, released Aug. 11, should have been on the charts this week. Per Billboard, "album has failed to chart."

Wow. I thought the movie was going to excel. It has had spotty marketing. The video of Vanessa Hudgens singing
Everything I Own was out for months, but no one - even today - has thought of releasing a single and getting airplay. Think if they had utilized Marketing Sociologist. Would have been one of the year's biggest, not the dog of the year.

Bandslam: Oddest TV publicity I've seen

Let's see, there were Aly Twitters from the UK, Regis and Kelly, Jimmy, NBC and now the Weather Channel. Yet no CBS, ABC morning shows, Conan or Dave. Weird. We'll know the results of this marketing campaign Sunday evening - stay here to read about it!

Wil Ponyo upend Bandslam?
What is the fate of Tween marketing?
Vanessa Hudgens & Aly Michalka or
Noie Cyrus & Bonus Jonas Frankie?

No mention of Bandslam in this NBC review.

For all the 15 years old male followers of this site. In your dreams, part II

Hey, weren’t all these at Bandslam premiere on Thursday?

Don’t know who she is. Must not have a CD. Enjoy, boys.

She’s way too old for you Ashley Tisdale

Jordin Sparks – with all that beauty, you know why we live in the desert!

Kristen Stewart (Who? Another of Rod’s zillion spawns?) Everyone has different tastes

Again, have no clue. Must not have CD. Different tastes. Did Nikki Reed hang out with my daughter when they were 5?

Lovesick song not on Bandslam
Saved for 78violet

As Aly and AJ Michalka said in their mid-July Web cast, Lovesick will be on the 78violet work. It isn't on Bandslam soundtrack. Wonder what it sounds like?

How Summit Entertainment and Hollywood Records should debut Bandslam on
Good Morning America

ABC Television is owned by Disney. Hollywood Records is the Disney stars’ stable or record label.

ABC’s Good Morning America has built the careers of Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and more on its Friday morning shows.

Unfortunately Kenny Chesney is scheduled for Aug. 14 and American Idiot stars for this Friday.

Too bad Chesney can’t call in sick. I had a wonderful idea for Summit Entertainment.

The hosts have a movie screen up, and they show a one minute clip of Bandslam, ending with Lisa Kudrow and the audience screaming. Then, right as the horns launch, the entire Bandslam band, with Alyson Michalka on guitar freeing Vanessa Hudgens to do her famous pose offs, jumps through the screen in a live performance – the full version, of Everything I Own.

I think it’d be terrific marketing and it hasn’t been done in quite some time.

Announcers end with, "Bandslam opens today." No talking to the stars. That’s how the show ends.

To be REALLY effective, as the movie screen falls to reveal drummer, etc., it is the Bandslam movie backdrop! Of course the band is dressed in what they wore in the movie.
